It can be overwhelming for seniors and their families when it comes time to downsize and move to a smaller house, condo, apartment, or care facility. And it can be even more stressful if a loved one has died and the family must deal with disposing of unwanted items and personal belongings.In most situations, the Hospice Shoppe can offer an alternative to disposal fees and/or broker fees for elders needing to downsize due to health or aging issues.
It’s hard to part with treasured possessions accumulated over a lifetime. There may be value in these items but where do you start?Attempting to sell furnishings and other items can be very time consuming and often results in a stream of phone calls and showings that have little or no results.Often family is in town to assist for a limited period of time. Time constraints can make it difficult to accomplish everything that needs to be done, especially when you aren’t familiar with who to call or where to turn for help.
The Hospice Shoppe offers a free alternative for elders in transition.
No matter what the reason is for moving, our staff can offer a quick assessment on whether or not we can be of assistance. Often times we are able to take everything that the family does not wish to retain.The Hospice Shoppe thrift store
handles all types of household items.The staff and volunteers providing this service are trained hospice volunteers
well versed in dealing with sensitive situations. All our work is done with care and respect to ensure that the transition is completed with as little stress as possible.
All merchandise handled by the Hospice Shoppe will be sold with 100% of the net profit going to the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society.
In this way the person donating the merchandise can rest assured that the money is staying in the community and helping others. Many believe that donating in this way is a much better option than the alternatives.There will be no charge for our services.
We can wrap and box merchandise if that is required and the Hospice Shoppe van is available to transport donations.
Sorry – we are not able to help with moving you from one location to another another and we do not do cleaning, but can help partner you up with the correct services to help with this.
